Vintage Hagstrom Guitar parts?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a vintage hagstrom Kent guitar, probably from around the early 60s.

Looks like this

Problem is I'm missing some rather important pieces. you can see where the strings meet the bridge, there is a bent L shaped piece of metal that goes over the balls of the strings, and screws into the bridge. There, there are 6 small metal pins that go through the plate, through the string ball and into the bridge, this is what holds the strings in place.

Does ANYBODY know what I can find parts for old hagstroms. I remember I found a place several years ago and remember being rather pricey, in sweden. However I can no longer find it anymore.

Or hell better yet, if any body here is good with metal,and/or has access to a machine shop and could fabricate something better as a part. PM me and maybe we can work something out.

Might want to peruse the classifieds at Vintage Guitar Magazine. IIRC there's someone who advertises in there who specializes in Hagstrom and other Euro-imports' parts.

Thank you sir! That was the website. Only thing that sucks is i remember emailing them asking about those tiny little metal pins, and they were charging 5 dollars a piece! Guess you have to pay considering they seem to be the only ones with the parts.

I shot them an email asking how much the parts would be again and how much for shipping. I REALLY want to get this guitar strung back up as it was my grandpas, plus it would save me some money on buying a new guitar. It's in great shape, just needs to be strung up and played more!

Karl-Eric Hagstrom Jr was in charge of the site and Hagstrom SE, but he passed away last fall, so I don't know how long it will take for someone to get back in touch with you.

RIP K-EH Jr.

5string5fingers be patient. The Swedes have never been in a hurry.

Sad to hear.

Haha and thanks for the note, but being a volvo owner, and one has modded Volvo's I know what those crazy swedes do to those cars and what they can do. They can hurry when they want to

Anyways,in other words the company could be out of commission for quite a while. Any other sights that carry these parts?

$5 a piece sounds pretty reasonable for something that's otherwise unobtainable.

just seems crazy for a small piece of metal half the size of your pinky nail.

Got an email back, and I've found out there seems to be two different bridge saddles.

One,being the one in the picture I posted above, and the second being this one,the one that fits on my guitar.

It shows it being strung through the saddle so I wonder if it can be both ways, although I don't see the purpose. You can see a hole in front of each string ball,THAT is where the small pins went through, and would go through the string ball and into the bridge to hold it in place. A very odd design.

Now I'm wondering if I can put the saddle thats in the first picture,on my guitar. If the parts are interchangable. However looking at that saddle it looks like it may be a string thru bridge type design.

I would, but unfortunately I don't have 90 bucks plus however much shipping from sweden is,to buy them. I asked how much the bridge saddle plate was,as I'm pretty sure thats all I need. If not, then I will just buy a few pins at a time.

I fear how much the bridge plat is going to cost if those pins are 15 bucks a piece and about 1/50 the mass.

I e-mailed them (hagstromparts.se) two days ago about some parts my son's guitar is missing, and someone named Karl responded back within a day. They don't list any prices on their website, but he said if I told him what I wanted he would get back to me with the prices. So we'll see. Pretty good service so far.

I think his name is still in the signature as someone stated before he passed away recently. They're a little slow in responding back but very helpful so far. The bridge piece is 22 bucks,so I think i'm going to buy that and see if I need those pins or not. If i do I'm at least halfway there.

Just got prices back from Hagstrom, in case anyone's interested. Pickguard with gold (colored) 'Hagstrom" inlay...minus some screws and mounting bracket which I already have.. $100 plus shipping. Insert for tone or volume knob...the little stick-on that goes on top of the knob...$10 plus shipping. Gonna have to think this one over. Whoever said the price of unobtainium has gone up is right.
