Vintage Instrument Values (drums content)

Sign in to disble this ad
This topic has been covered pretty extensively here for basses and elsewhere for guitars, but I was hoping to pick some brains on the values of old drum kits.

Do drums appreciate in value like an old Fender bass does?

I found mostly snares increase in value. Some kits will increase especially if they were limited production. You can "vintage" kits just about anywhere for a decent price but some snares sell as much as the entire vintage kit.

Depends upon the brand and color and how rare the kit is. For instance a Rogers Dyna-Sonic wooden snare it very valuable while the metal model is much less valuable. But personally, I don't any of it really appreciates in value. My son has my bothers 1969-70 Rogers drum kit shown here.

We paid about $600 for it in 1970 and I would expect to get about $1500 for it now. Well you do the math, if we had just put that $600 in the bank it would be worth more that the drum kit. Moral to the story, don't buy anything because you think it's going to appreciate in value.

I feel silly for selling that silver mid 60s Slingerland Gene Krupa set for $200 around 10 years ago...
