Vocal amp for band practise

Sign in to disble this ad
Our singer needs to be LOUDER!!! he was singing raining blood and we could barely hear him because he was only singing through a 15 watt guitar practise amp with a 6 inch speaker. We are playing with drums that have full on double bass, my 180watt bass amp through 15"cab and a Roland cube 60 (which is surprisingly not that loud).

Anyways the loudest thing are drums we just need the singer to be able to sing over that, what would be the minimum power and speaker size needed for this?

BTW we are going used here as funds aren't much, so we are going to be looking at, keyboard, guitar and bass combos, anything that is loud enough and affordable.

Look for a used JBL Eon monitor or other powered monitor. They're designed vocals. You should be able to plug an xlr or 1/4" cable into it. We use powered EV's but they may be out of your price range.

+1 on the powered monitor wedge. We have a full PA for gigs, but for rehersal we just use one of the monitor wedges with lead vocals in. I can't recommend a brand - we have a couple of warfdales, but the cheap ones tend to die, so we gutted it and use it as a passive. The more expensive warfdales (ie the one that's still working!) are better. We've got a couple of Peavey's too.

If you can afford it, spend a bit more and get a 15", 300W. At some point in the future when you get a full PA, and/or play gigs with other bands PA's you'll be glad you have a good monitor. You've all bought instruments and amps - the least you singer can do is buy a monitor...
