Groove. Obviously I like both, but a good groove appeals to me more.

Groove. It's all about chicks shaking their tatas.

I agree with Pacman, a good walk should groove hard!

Yup - walking is often the best and deepest groove - some of the greatest moments in (recorded) Jazz are when a walking line comes in - as in "So What" - when Miles's solo starts and Mr. PC starts up that walking groove - similarly on "Stolen Moments" - after the head, when the solos start!

Lots more of course - but those are probably best-known...?

In a set I like to do a bit of both and that's the nice thing about playing Jazz - you nearly always get variety and balance in a set - so you might play some tunes that have a fast walking line, a bluesy, slow grooving walking line, a funky tune, a slow Bossa, a fast Samba or Cuban Son - odd-time signature grooves etc. etc.

Are you asking what kind of jazz we like better?

Straight-ahead vs. Soul Jazz

i like to groove rather than walk usually, but i haven't done much where a walk fits. im learning a song now with a nice walk, but its tough for me since im not used to it

but whatever fits is definitely best

I also agree with Pacman.

Some of the hardest grooves i've been a part of have been when i've been walkin a line.

Strongest groove I've ever heard has been a fellow by the name of Gary Wilkins walking like he was born to it. Anyone who's been to Bass Up this year or last year knows what I'm talking about.

Walking and grooving are definitely not mutually exclusive (except when I play ).
