I have a bunch of cassettes that I still want to listen to so I'm getting a walkman portable cassette player. I'm willing to pay $1 or less for cassettes, especially for classic albums. another part of it is going back to listening to albums in their entirety, albeit I can do that w my iphone/ipud--dark side of the moon, the wall, any led zeppelin, beatles, classical, jazz, etc. Part of it is nostalgia, part having a tangible object from a band I like & not jsut mp3 file (I have that too; dont worry I'm not a complete dinosaur), part warm sound quality even if it means white noise from the tape rolling.
Do you listen to entire albums? which ones
a coworker is vehemently opposed to audio cassettes, their sound quality, the fact that they are separate objects, not files, & is trying to talk me out of it--don't know why--I don't owe him an explanation + he can kiss my grits. anyway im getting it so if you ahve cassettes you want to get rid of send them my way or just discuss
I also still like reading real hardcover books & flirting with girls face to face. well not since my current girl |

Cassettes were trash, and I pulled the tape player from my first car within 20 minutes of getting it home for a CD player. CD's were great, but didn't have the portability of an iPod. Can't beat a week's worth of music in my pocket. But yes, I generally listen to whole albums, though the idea of an album is going by the wayside.

| | | | ha ha ha! saying you could come home & take out your tape player for a cd player tells me you have no business talking about tapes! when they are the only format to use you use them. my first car had an 8track player & my current truck only has a tape deck. i rocked some Van Halen yesterday on my way to rehearsal. it ruled hard

Every now and then, I've though about buying a USB-powered turntable and recording my small vinyl collection for my iPod - I have a few 1st-gen Beatles, a 1st-gen Live At Leeds, and some Japanese imports, none of which get used currently.

My ex wife has my turntable & record collection. And library. And furniture. |

| | Now 10% Less Offensive! | | Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Anchorage, Alaska | | | I used to have boxes of cassettes. Now the only cassettes I have are old radio airchecks of myself from when I was on the air as a DJ.
When CD's got popular and cassettes started to disappear, I moved to CD's. When mp3 files got popular and CD's started to be more inconvenient, I moved to mp3's.
I still have a Radio Shack cassette player/recorder but it doesn't get any use now. I don't see the need to stay stuck in the past or to idolize outdated technology. The only reason might be the nostalgia of it. I mean, I still love radio and listen to the radio. I even own a few analog AM/FM radios. Old technology, yeah, but having been a radio DJ I have a thing for radios.
If I was going to value the old technology for the supposed "warm" audio quality, I'd go for vinyl records. Records have a unique old skool sound all their own and I like it better than a hissing, warbling old cassette. When I was a little kid (way long ago) we had 8-tracks and vinyl records. The first records I remember were Aerosmith (Get Your Wings and Toys In The Attic). The first 8-track I remember having was Nazareth (don't remember which album). I had cassettes all through my teens.
If you want to get into cassettes, keep an eye on eBay. I'm sure you can find a few on there. Also, check your local pawnshops.

| | | | oh man that is one thing i got was my records, 7" reel to reel w/ an 8 track player/recorder & all my other music stuff. she kept all the tvs & furniture i didn't want anyways!
but any old 8 track recorder will have audio outs. & you can even get converters if it is a phono jack like old school record players are.

I use the cassette with a car kit for my iPod, but when I can I'm yanking it out and installing an iPod-ready/USB drive-ready unit.

I put on a record, and I'm not jumping around to listen to one song. I'm experiencing the ENTIRETY of what the artist intended (at least when people gave a crap about a whole, strong, album). I have Yes' Fragile as one big file on my ipod, because let's be honest, it's a bit stupid separating up all those songs. So here's for the return of the ALBUM, not the hodge-podge assortment of Singles and filler you get all the time now.

I always feel that listening to complete albums is a much more wholesome experience than listening to favorite songs, individually. The latter gets boring pretty quick, so I almost always have whole albums in my music player(s).
