Wall guitar hangers in plaster?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I picked up 2 of these and installed them in my plaster walls. I tried to screw the anchors in but the walls are so freakin hard i couldnt get the plastic anchors to go in. So right now I've just got the screws holding them in. It seems secure with both basses, and they dont move any... but I'm kind of paranoid about going home and seeing my basses on the floor.

If these hangers are going to pull out, would they usually pull out right away (or at least seem loose)? Or do they just fall out one day?

With plaster, you may have to predrill for the anchors. I might also recommend the spring loaded anchors that go on the inside of the wall and expand to hold. They are MUCH more secure.

I think lifting your basses on and off of the hanger will eventually cause the screws to come out.
Are your walls Sheetrock or actual plaster. If they are plaster you probably screwed into something substantial enough to hold. I would use a toggle bolt in this situation as a screw could eventually get loose and your bass could get damaged if it didn't fall just right.

Yeah i might have to do that. I was trying to screw the plastic anchors into the screwholes but they wouldn't go. The hangars seem pretty damn secure in the plaster with the screws but I dunno...

I used a cedar board (more decorative than ,say, pine) and used long drywall screws to go into the wall studs. Then I used lag bolt style guitar hangers (must predrill holes) through the board. The extra depth off the wall keeps the intruments from sliding and rubbing on the wall should they get bumped.
