Want to learn a bit of guitar, where to start?

yes I'm a bassist wanting to learn the dreaded Guitar in which the snobby filled ego musicians play, but face it guys its a cool instrument thats needed.

Anyways i have the dexterity for it so that shouldn't be much of a limiting problem, its just all the technique and chords and stuff that i'd like to get a custom to.

There is so much even for the amount that i want to know, I just want to get familiar with it (mainly learning rhythm), I don't wnat to be the next Hendrix, Vai or petrucci here, i basically wnat to be able to pick up a guitar and well play it. I have yet to find a decent way to actually learn it, I'm putting 20/30 minutes away for learning it a day I want to use the time efficiently. Everytime I try to get into it I get bored and just pick up the good old bass.

Can anybody give me some methods of learning, sites and recommend some good songs to play?

thanks

I recommend getting at least a few lessons from a guitar teacher. I always had problems with the thin little strings on guitars and always pushed them out of tune (ham fisted). A little bit of guidance on the technique has helped me immensely.

A few lessons is the first thing I'd get. There's a book I was working out of for a while called Progressive Rhythm Guitar. It was nice, but i lost interest in learning it. I now tune by guitar B-C.

Start with your local library and see what they have in terms of books and even software based instructional programs for learning guitar. I play both bass and guitar, prefering bass as my instrument of first choice. There is no shortage of instructional material these days for anyone wanting to learn to play the guitar, or any instrument for that matter.
