Wanted: Christian Rock Songs for Xmas Show.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey people

Well, we've got a Xmas show coming up and the guy organising it is wanting the combined churches to something, so thinking it would be a good chance for us to play some good rock songs that talk about Jesus in a way that people can relate to (xmas is about Him, so figure that a couple of Christian rockers in the middle of the carols should still fit alright).

We've got a half hour time slot or thereabouts, so hoping to sing something that is catchy (rocky-and-would-suit-leather-jackets), moving and clearly explains the faith to people who might not have thought about it before.

So far I have "The Holiest Name", "Creed" and "We Need Jesus" by Petra by Petra, and "Saviours Day" by Cliff Richard.

Quite like "The Holiest Name", to give you an idea of what I'm thinking.

Anyway, ideas please! And Merry Christmas

Hmm... Hillsong never fails. Todd Agnew has really good stuff. If you're looking for more rock, try Day of Fire, RED, Skillet. There's a lot of great Christian music out there today.

There was a great Christmas song by One Bad Pig, I can't remember what it was called. If your guitarist if up for it, Phil Keggy has a few Christmas songs/versions kicking around.

We have used Song Of Hope (Heaven Come Down) by Robbie Seay Band for Christmas themes before. Very fun song to play.

there is a version of "little drummer boy" by a Christian band called "White Heart". It can be heard on playlist.com:

I really enjoy it.

I wrote some lyrics to Sunshine of Your Love because I love the bassline so much - it was a big hit at our church Christmas party. I also wanted to give the shepards their due as early witnesses - they have been shortchanged in the carole department IMO. Good luck with the show.

Jesus, Born in Bethlehem
Words by Dangnewt and Jack Bruce, Pete Brown and Eric Clapton
Music: "Sunshine of Your Love" by Jack Bruce, Pete Brown and Eric Clapton

Its getting near dawn
Our watch will soon be over
Its been a calm peaceful night
The sheep are all safe and sound
What's that I hear
A choir of angels are singing to us

We've been waiting so long
For a Messiah to come
Jesus, Born in Bethlehem

Lets go to him now
We must see the Savoir Child
There he is in the stall
Beautiful meek and mild
We've got to tell everyone
Tell them our Savior is born today

We've been waiting so long
For a Messiah to come
Jesus, Born in Bethlehem

David Crowder.
Leeland (we're doing "Reaching" in our Christmas services this year)
Phil Wickham.
Magnificiant by U2 is actually a Christian song. Bono stated this many times in interviews. It was our opening song for Easter last year.

hahahaha! that's pretty funny.

if you want Christmas songs, Tomlin just put out a new "Christmas/Worship album" that's got some pretty cool versions of the old Christmas tunes.

"Better Days" --- Goo Goo Dolls .. it's not blatant Jesus screaming.. listen closely.

"Mary Did You Know" rocks if you do it tastefully and spectrum slotted.

Ahhh. Very cool. Amazing how GGD evolved, especially between the first 5 albums before they hit.

Switchfoot - their new album or their old albums especially. Lincoln Brewster if you have a good guitarist. Relient K has a Christmas album with a few good ones.

Check Air1.com - it is a satellite distributed radio programming for FM station. They play alt. rock christian stuff.

Mercy Me's Christmas album has a few great rockin christmas songs that are similar to the tradition carols, but definitely have a twist.

All Creation Sing (Joy to the World) by Fee went over very well at my church last year. I expect it to return again soon this year since we play Christmas music all throughout the advent season.

Father Christmas by the Kinks rocks!
I Believe in Father Christmas by ELP... very beautiful but also hard to master
Carol of the Bells - The one riff in there is downright heavy to play on guitar or bass.
