warning about buyer protection on ebay/paypal

I bought a guitar on ebay and it had severe problems. Ebay sent me a prepaid label and advised me to send it back and they'd refund my money. I did that. I got notification of a paypal refund a couple days later. Unfortunately, the seller's bank denied the paypal refund. Now I am without the guitar or the money. Ebay closed the case and won't allow me to update it anymore. Paypal won't let me dispute it because it's registered as an ebay transaction. When I call ebay's buyer resolution they transfer me to paypal and paypal tells me I have to resolve the case through ebay.

This is the last time I'll make a big purchase on ebay.

Go back to the seller's bank. See if you can determine that funds are available to cover the amount, and if they will authorize payment. Personally, I would involve my bank and get their opinion/help on presenting this item to the seller's bank (again) for payment.

This is being denied for one of at least two reasons.
1. Seller signed a stop payment order.
2. Seller had insufficient funds when it was denied, earlier. This could change as funds are deposited, and another payment is presented.

Classic, paypal IS ebay. No wonder it gets called evilbay.
