Washtub Bass....

Have you ever actually played one?

You know......the washtub with a hole in it and a cord and a pole that you play like a standup?

Yep. They are surprisingly intuitive to play.

Took a turn on one at an open jam one night. Took a minute to finger it out, but once you do it's kinda fun. I wouldn't want to try to play a whole night with one though.

Yes, I actually built one in my youth and played it with a band. Very fun.

I made one, once. The only mistake was using clothesline cord instead of a weed eater cord. That I would change next time.

I built one last year. hardly play it.

I've never played one.....

but I think it would take a bit of getting used to.....as you have to pull on the "neck" (pole) to get different notes on the string....right?

You get the note with your left hand using different tensions rather than finding notes on the "neck" right?

I went a different way with my washtub bass by using the washtub as the body of a shortscale EUB.
