Hello, everybody.
As either you know or you don't, I live in South Korea.
And I luckily haven't witnessed the same bothersome
phenomenon in the US, Japan or Europe,
BUT in Korea,
there are some people who takes every rude stance
while they communicate in the web marketplace.
I wish to know how you guys think.
First one.
A seller posts an instrument or a gear to sell
and leaves the description:
"I'm not in a very much need of money,
but I'm posting anyway. If this doesn't go away by
this weekend, I won't sell".
Well, this is rude, isn't it?
It's like some tough American guy saying
"If you're not buying, PI-- OFF!"
Second one.
A seller leaves the price section as "Call for price".
I wonder what would happen if I get that info
and post in public.
Third one.
A stranger comes into an instrument store and
asks the clerk:
"Would you buy my Nintendo Wii?"
......Well.. actually happened once when I was working
at the local store..
Anyway, I think the first one is something people
shouldn't do and the second one is kind of impolite.
How do you think about them? |

Not really rude, just a bit of marketing, or maybe it's the truth.
'Call for price' is just silly IMO as most people won't bother, and will prefer to follow up other instruments that have a published price. Often companies (not private sellers) will say this as they aren't allowed to publish lower prices than the suggested manufacturer's ones, or they risk losing the rights to distribute them.
Talkbass Classifieds avoid this problem by insisting a price is given for all FS ads.
The third one is just a bit weird, not really rude.
I've bought and sold quite a lot of gear, and to me the only important thing is that the buyer or seller is honest and communicative. Unfortunately once in a while I've gotten what I consider a rude message from someone (usually a potential buyer) but they are rarely a serious buyer or seller and are easily ignored.
In the end if you want to deal with strangers for any reason you will come across some very rude people, and some absolutely delightful ones. Ignore the idiots and the problem disappears! |

Second one, there are low-ballers who call everyone to offer them a pittance in hopes of landing a good deal or to resell, so he’ll likely not enjoy the phone calls. Or he’ll just get those who reeeeally want the item, which might work out.
Third one, if interested at all in the item, I’d just offer a really low price, as the person probably really needs the cash. If not, just say "Sorry, can't help ya".
