way to switch between clean and high gain with no channels?

Sign in to disble this ad
My tube amp gives me a great dirty sound but its a pain in the butt to stop and adjust my settings everytime i want to switch between that and a cleaner sound. My amp doesnt have channels. Is there a way to get around this? I dont want to have to buy a distortion pedal wince I have the sound i want in my amp already.

This might belong under effects pedals but i dont know.

My amp is a Traynor YBA200 if thats necessary.

What settings do you change when you go between the settings?

In my experience with tube amps, incoming volume control can do a lot as far as low gain/high gain is concerned. Get yourself a volume pedal. One where you can set the minimum volume. When a tube amp distorts, it's actually clipping, but it's just soft clipping, so it doesn't hurt anything. Set the volume levels of the pedal around the threshold of distortion. Then just rock back for clean, rock forward for distortion.

Or you can achieve the same effect with just the dynamics of your playing.

The volume pedal thing would be cool, but you should also be able to clean up
your tone by slightly backing off your basses volume or your (basses) active bass knob.
