WE WANT XANADU!

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a petition for Rush to play Xanadu within the next few tours. Doublenecks and all. I don't know about you all, but I really want the chance to see Xanadu played live. I was born in the wrong era to see it happen the way it should (not part of a medly of their old classics on the R30 tour.) I can only watch footage from the "robe era" as Rush called it in their new documentary. It is an incredible and epic work of prog rock. I really want to see it played sometime. So, leave your vote in a comment if you agree! You never know who reads these forums!

Saw Rush in '78 on their Hemispheres tour. Not only did they play Xanadu, but the entire Hemispheres album too. The "Robe" era in all it's glory!

Awesome. I was born around the time that Different Stages came out. I got into Rush in '06. Far too late. Ughhhh.

Any particular reason you're posting this under "Basses" rather than "Bassists", or even "Miscellaneous"?

TO THE MODERATORS:

I did not mean for this thread to be under the basses category.

I saw this tour as well. Saw them at the Palladium in New York meaning that they hadn't hit huge quite yet. I took a bunch of photos and had two blown up. Probably them playing Xanadu. One has both on double necks playing side by side. The other is Alex in front of his rig playing his doubleneck as fog billowed up around him.

That show was amazing. As a young teen guitar player, I remember wondering how the heck Alex got the delay at the beginning of 2112 in time with the music. These kids today with their tap tempo delay units don't know how good they have it. LOL

I finally scanned this one in:

Agreed... Can you post those vintage pix?
The show I saw was at the Long Beach Arena, Calif. I think I remember Pat Travers & .38 Special as the opening acts.

just happen to be listening to Xanadu right at this moment.

I won't pay their outrageous show prices nowadays...but you have my vote. Rush in Rio is on my DVR at home...so that'll work (for me).

They did play Xanadu on the 30th anniversary tour. Completely. At least on the Euro Leg, its on the DVD.

I'm a huge huge huge Rush fan, but I couldn't care less about having Xanadu in a setlist.a

@oddgrowth I'll continue to pay 100 a seat for an amazing show. No concert is cheap these days.

They look circa Permanent Waves tour to me.
Alex wearing "regular" clothes & shorter hair.

I totally remember the kimono / robe look for Hemispheres... Or am I thinking "Farewell" tour?

Agreed - Alex's short hair, jacket, narrow tie, plus the narrow legs on Geddy's pants...that looks like Permanent Waves, or even Moving Pictures, to me too.

Cool, though! I love seeing them both play doublenecks.

Definitely the Permanent Waves tour - I was there at the Palladium too - my first Rush concert - I'll never forget it!

I'll never forget the awesome spectacle of the Permanent Waves tour, I was about 16 and had been playing bass for a little over a year. Xanadu was one we played back in high school that I oddly can still remember and play (at least most of it), despite not playing it with anyone since 1982 or so. In fact, played the opening stretch for my nephew the other night, a freshly minted Rush fan. That's a cool cool song.

I saw Rush during the Hemispheres tour (I think it was '77 or so) at the Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ, 4th row. They did most of the album, including Xanadu. The opening band was hilarious - they were called "Starz" and were absolutely terrible!

That would make sense that this is the Permanent Waves tour. I graduated from high school in NY in 1981 before heading off to college in the fall. But I'll still dine on honeydew and drink the milk of paradise.

Richie Rano, guitarist for Starz was/is a great player. They were pretty local to us in NY/NJ. Rock Six Times!

I've seen them play Xanadu a bunch of times and would love to see it again. I would also petition to hear this live once more in it's entirely, but I wouldn't count on them doing it- this was so amazing.
