"Weekly World News" Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hola,

I'm thinking about purchasing a neck and an unfinished body from Warmoth, with the intention of attaching clippings from all the Weekly World News tabloids I've been collecting (the one that does a lot of stories on Batboy, Aliens and Elvis) to the body somehow in collage-like fashion, and puting a satin finish clearcoat over it.

I've fanticized about having a Weekly World News bass since I was a teenager, and would be interested to hear advise on how to best do this, in other words, minimize the effect it has on the sound.

Has anyone attempted making a comic book, newspaper clipping, embarrassing high school yearbook pictures of random people, etc. collage bass or guitar? If so, how did it go?

Thank You

There have been some porn basses, with Penthouse pictures covering the body, I've never seen news clippings though. I know some guys put a clear pickguard on their bass and put stuff under that too.

Not too long ago someone popped up with a P-Bass, IIRC, on which they plastered all sorts of news clippings to the pickguard. Pretty neat look. A whole bass would be a bit much, I think, but you never know. May come out pretty cool. Especially with a big picture of Batboy on it!

Warmoth has a Tele Guitar that a customer built with Beer label all over it. Looked pretty cool. Newspaper clippings, never seen that.

It won't be cool unless there's a pic of a Chupacabra on it!

wow, you Americans are lucky... I'm tempted to move out there for the sole purpose of being able to buy that newspaper.

I honest to god thought it was a real newspaper first time I went out there. it wasn't until I was halfway through reading it that I got slightly suspicious.

Search the net for decoupage - that's the actual art term for the process.

Good luck!

I was considering it once, then I realized how hard it would be to do without the ink smearing, how do you plan to counter that?
