Now that GC is no longer allowing discounts, it is now just about impossible for me to get strings at a decent price. I tune my basses in fifths (CGDA), so I have to buy my strings individually. GC doesn't discount their singles, so a set of string for me now costs around $45 - previously, I was able to walk out paying about $16-$18. I play about 250+ shows a year, so I need to change my strings on a semi-regular basis, but I can't go dropping this kind of change all the time on strings. Not happy.

I need a string endorsement. This sucks.

Well, the economy (euphemism for recession at this point..) is affecting costs everywhere, including strings...Now I need to buy new strings but can't afford to either...

Thanks for the reminder!

Maybe try Just Strings? Or talk with the people at SIT, they seem to be interested in working with gigging pro's who have different needs (Like JT with needing 7 strings).

Benjamin, I couldn't see a string co. wanting to turn you down on the opportunity to purchase directly. You gig NON-STOP, even internationally, so you'll be able to get their name out there all the time. It also doesn't hurt that your band is fantastic! Hope to see y'all again over this way. I think May is the next time you're in this area, but I have no idea what my work schedule will look like.

Yeah, Ben, if you're gigging steady, you should be able to get a string deal...heck, even I got one back in the days I was in the Quarter!

Try Just Strings. They have the best customer service, and prices. That is who I buy from, and I'm extremely pleased.

I think an endorsement is a good idea as well, especially since you gig so much.

Yeah, seems like you do. Go get one!

Or see if Haight Ashbury Music can hook you up when you're in CA.

Please stay tuned: The rest of the thread will continue after this brief derailment.

If flats work for your situation, you'll probably find they last allot longer.

As others have said, with your gigging schedule, a string endorsement deal shouldn't be all that difficult to get.
