What 212/412 cab for GUITAR?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a Fender Mustang 150w head, very pleased with it.

I'm now shopping for a cab to go with it. Roughly 300 pounds max.

It has to be 2x8 ohm stereo. I'm happy to get a mono 4 or 16 ohm cab and convert it, I'm pretty handy with soldering.

Would you guys recommend a cheap 412 or 212?

I would rather stay away from Marshall MG series...

I was thinking one of these:

Fender Bandmaster 2x12 (ohm mismatch, but oh well)
Orange PPC212
Laney GS212
Orange PPC410
Marshall MC212

It's open to discussion and suggestions

Thanks

Wow, you're an idiot. It's not illegal to post a guitar question on talkbass. It's in Miscellaneous, not the Amps section.

I'm not going to create an UltimateGuitar account just because some people can't comprehend that I play Bass and Guitar.

Please leave.

I really like the sound of the Marshall JCM 900 1960a lead cab. There's also a 1984a cab of some kind, but I don't remember the difference. I can't remember which one (1960 VS 1984) my old guitar player had, but we also had access to a Mesa 412, Framus 412, and a Marshall MG series, and I would have taken the JCM series cab over the Mesa cab every time. Not only did it sound WAY better than the Mesa (for our paricular situation), but it was also considerably lighter. The Framus was awesome too, but expensive.

Not sure how they'd pair with a Fender head, but these cabs can usually be found at a reasonable price used.

See if you can find a Jackson 4x12. They're rarer cabs, but they sound amazing, and they can take 4 or 8 ohms, stereo/mono.

from the list, orange 212. (guitars need 12's IMO) really anything loaded with 12" celestians would work too.

Either way, he has a point in regards to recommending Avatar cabs. Check 'em out:
