What about the drummer?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a topic for you.
We all ask about our favorite bass players, but your favorite drummer?
I think we would all agree that the drummer is all so important when playing bass. It's the beat that he lays down that inspires us to create the groove with him.
I'd kill to play with Charlie Watts or Steve Jordan.

All things considered, for all round musical genius it has to be Dave Grohl.
For pure drumming brilliance, Danny Carey from Tool.

Carter Beuford
Lester Estelle Jr.
or Steve Jordan

I'd probably give one of the boys to play with one of those three.

Ooh! Definitely Bernard Purdie, Steve Gadd or the Motown drummers; Uriel, "Pistol" Allen and Benny Benjamin.

To play with Stewart Copeland would be brilliant as well!

JB from Zepellin...innovative and precise. He had a sound on drums that I have yet to hear repeated (partly due to his technique, partly recording techniques/gear, I'm guessing): Raw, yet expertly controlled.

Other favs:
-Neil Peart
-Stuart Copeland
-Dave Grohl
-Bud (Sublime, Long Beach Dub Allstars)
-Precision/speed kings: Dave Lombardo (ex Slayer), Travis (Blink 182), Joey (Slipknot)

Bottom line: If you have a bad drummer, you have a bad band!

Right now mine are Al Foster, Jack DeJohnette and Dannie Richmond. Billy Martin, Elvin Jones and a few others are permanent favorites.

Jeffrey Porcaro all the way, unfortunatley he is not with us anymore. his groove is unreal. i know toto is not a well respected band with many people, but do yourselvs favor and listen to 'jake the bone' from the Kingdom of Desire album. its just a mind blowing instrumental with lots of great playing.

tim alexander from Primus is really good too i think.
