What bands would you "tribute band"

I don't know why, but there are a few bands I'd consider doing a tribute band of... and I'm not really a fan of cover bands. But for mere self indulgence and to spread the music of these bands (in some cases), I would do a tribute band for:

Morphine - Underrated (use the term loosely), Mark Sandman's music should live forever. Plus... slide bass is fuuuunnn. The two things preventing it (I would do it too), where am I going to find a sax player around here? Also, there is no way I could croon as sexy as Mark Sandman

Cream - The perfect blues/psych band. I don't think they have a bad song. Preventing: Where am I going to find an Eric Clapton. But I don't think I'd persue this that heavily.

ZZ Top - Rock and Roll. Preventing: I'd need a 4 ft beard. But I'd want to play guitar! I love Dusty and everything, but I'd want to be Billy ****ing Gibbons. The man defines cool.

Primus - This was a dream a year or two ago. I actually jammed with a drummer who could nail Herb/Brains stuff... and IMO was better than both of them!! I even have a guitarist I could have turned into a Ler. Preventing: Where the hell is my six string fretless. . Plus the drummer moved away. I kinda got over Primus too, probably forgot half the basslines I picked up.

No need to name your preventing reasons. Who would you tribute? Are you in a tribute band? Lets see/hear it!

I remeber TB had a Lemmy lookalike in a Motorhead tribute band that was sweet. That reminds me...

Motorhead - !!!! Preventing... No Ric, No Vox, No Sideburns.

I'd love to do a Jawbox tribute band. They kicked way too much ass to never become well-known.

I've heard there's a tribute album, but I've never listened to it.

EDIT: A QOTSA cover band would be awesome as well. Just wish I could sing like Josh or scream like Nick.

I think I'd dig either a Black Sabbath or an REM tribute....

Maybe a Tom Petty tribute even.

Never join a tribute band for a band you actually like...

5 years of playing their same 2 albums of material every night and you're going to HATE them, so pick a band you're prepared to hate.

Also pick a band that is still bringing out material - otherwise you're stuck with the same set until you just can't stand it any more...

I've never done it, but go see any tribute band - you can see it in their eyes... "Kill me please... make it quick, I want to die rather than play that single again..."

Years ago, I played in a band called Broken Arrow, we played nothing but Buffalo Springfield tunes. It was cool for awhile, but then one of the guitarists began to think that he really was Steve Stills.

Guns N Roses... because I sound pretty close to him vocally and I love their music.
Kid Rock... because I look like his fraternal twin, at the very least.

Stevie Wonder. I don't think I'd ever get tired of playing that stuff.

Steely Dan, maybe Billy Joel. There aren't too many bands I'd want to play exclusively.

The Producers (80's band , not the recent rap act)

I'll never understand how The Producers were overlooked, even by their own label.

I probably would not have an audience, but...

The Pretenders (OLD stuff only - Before James 'honeyman' Scott and Pete Farndon Died)
XTC
Elvis Costello

These may get a crowd, but they are pretty cliche'
Led Zeppelin
Rush
Queen
The Beatles (I know, I know...)
Maybe Wings...

I'd be in a tribute band to Battery - a metallica tribute band.

Or a tribute band to appetite for destruction - a GnR tribute band.

Man, I'm awesome.

Actually, I wanna be in a Deathklock tribute band.

Or at least I'd like to learn the intro with my band.

There are only a couple of bands that over teh years I ever thought about doing a Trib. The main problem is I'm not sure who would ever come see the show, so that's why it'll never happen. lol...

Jethro Tull
Gentle Giant
Kansas
