I bought a custom Lakland in April and have only used a Lakland hardshell case to carry it around. I am moving to Boston to go to school for bass and a hardshell case is no longer an option. I need a gigbag with excellent protection that isn't a pain on my back to lug around. It must also have enough room to carry a laptop and some other things for school. Any help on this would be appreciated. Here are the ones I have come up with:
Sadowsky Portabag
Mono M80
IGig 515
Incase Slimbag
Undercover Single/Double bag
Thanks again for any help on this one. |

However, I've owned that, the iGig, and a Nordstrand gig bag, and I like my Nordstrand gig bag the best. The Incase bag offers amazing protection in a compact form. I've literally fallen down the stairs with my bass in that bag and the bass was completely unharmed. The iGig has a pocket for everything, but I felt it offered the least amount of impact protection from the three gig bags I mentioned. The Nordy gig bag has just been perfect for me though. It has enough pocket room to carry my Markbass F1, three cables, tuner, batteries, tools, etc. The backpack style straps are very comfortable and very well placed. It has a more ridged construction compared to the iGig, with seemingly better impact protection, but not as good as the Incase of course. |

Do you know where to get one of those Nordstrand gigbags online, or someplace that I can check out pics? Thanks for the suggestion, as I definitely need the most protection I can get. |

If you need the most protection you can get from a gig bag though, the Incase is the way to go. The Sadowsky portabag is very similar and will probably also offer similar protection to the Incase. A less expensive option, in the same vein as the Incase or Portabag, would be the Pro Tec Contego. A friend of mine has one and it looks to be a very nice bag for the money.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that the pockets are not as large as on some of those other bags mentioned, so if you need to fit a laptop in it may not be your cup of tea. Otherwise, it's a great semi-rigid bag.
