What is the best strap?

Sign in to disble this ad
Most comfortable, best weight distribution etc.etc. Have any of you tried one of the straps that are made of wooden beads that are supposed to massage you and distribute the weight well? I don't know the brand name do any of you? I am getting older and have the same strap from the '70's and am looking around. Thanks .Tom

Comfort Strapp is the one I am using. It's a shame that D'Addario stopped making the inflatable ones. They were really something good

The most comfortable strap in my collection that still has some good looks is a Levy's Leathers padded garment leather strap. Has quite a bit of padding, and is very flexible so it form-fits. Another of mine has similar padding, but the tooled leather top is far thicker and less flexible so it isn't quite as comfortable. Looks great though.

For me the best strap is a single piece (not 2 piece like most leather straps. Cant stand 'em.) nylon, at least 3" wide. Planet Waves has some really nice ones!!

Levy's all the way. I've been using them since 2000 and have toured around the world with the same strap. I would recommend them to anyone who wants to play comfortably. I also have the comfort strap and it is nice but IMO it allows the bass to move too much while performing. The Levy's padded leather is it for me!

Straps

Love my Moody. I have them on every bass I own. After gigging for several hours, I am still in good shape.

I love my Moodys too! 4" on my (very heavy) late 70's Jazz Bass, and 2-1/2" on my P-Bass & Carvin 5.

I know some people have had issues... but I really dig my 4" Italia. I'll be ordering an other for mt fretless 51.

Cindi has always returned my PMs over myspace... email is usually hit or miss.

I'm not sure a massaging strap is the best idea for long-term use, especially one like you mentioned. The maximum recommended time for a real deep-tissue massage is 30 minutes. Those beads on the strap will press into and rub over your shoulder muscles, which initially feels good, but after a while your shoulder will start to hurt like nothing else with the constant uneven pressure. Even a therapeutic massage often makes you feel like you've been beaten with a stick.

I like the Neotech straps. They have a padded neoprene section that stretches just the slightest bit - not enough to cause the instrument to bounce, but enough to help diffuse the momentum of the instrument's weight when you move around with it.

I have a Yamaha TRB I used to play primarily that is fairly heavy - with a 3" leather strap on it, my shoulder would always be sore at the end of a three-set night. The Neotech strap notably reduced the soreness.
