What to buy, new bass or amp?

I have myself a dilema. Im a pretty solid bass player with a few years under my belt, experimenting with slap but overall play with a jazz feel. I currently own an Ibanez BTB, action and feel is too sloppy for my taste (I beleive it is limiting my current development...) and Im playing through a trashy Hartke A70.

Just wondering what I should invest in first, Bass or amp?

Why not get a good setup on your bass and then decide if you need a new one?

As in change the bass set up? Im not quite that advanced and besides, its more than one thing i dont like.
Neck is too fat, too round, strings to wide apart, not enough frets, average pickups..

the list goes on. I can play it and get a good tone its just that Its much harder to play than a mates Warick Jazzman... (looking at one my self, or a corvette $$)

Since a new amp won't help improve the feel of the bass in your hands (which is pretty important), I'd suggest a new bass first. Play every one you can get your hands on until you find the one that jumps in your lap and screams, "take me home!!!".

It shouldn't cost a fortune to get a professional setup, which might help a little.

You can sell your bass or trade in for credit on something that you like more.

If you are trying to advance as a player, a comfortable well-set up bass will help you more than an amp.
