What can Musicians Accomplish

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all, just out for an opinion (and a bit of motivation), what do you feel a musician can accomplish beyond the basic gigging, bringing some entertainment to the everyday person and such? I study music at a conservatory (living at college), with a lot of friends studying medicine, engineering e.t.c, and some of them have very admirable aspirations. What (and I mean this in a positive sense), do you believe can be achieved in the sense of "greater good" or betterment of life for others?... A bit philosophical I know, but I'm interested to see what people have to put on the table...

Musicians are uniquely positioned to influence social consciousness.

Music, the arts, film, literature, entertainment... all make life worth living. They are also forms of wealth that society can enjoy without destroying the planet.

While there is the social consciousness aspect, lets not forget about the "art of rare sake" aspect as well as the entertainment aspect. Not as heavy or philosophical as social consciousness, but important non the less. Sometimes after a hard day you just want to smile and feel good. Nothing wrong with that.

+1

I would never underestimate the 'time out from the world' aspect of playing an instrument, that connection transcends. I'd like to say that that feeling and experience is worth its weight in gold, but on that level even gold pales in value somehow.
