What color?

Which shade of brown should I paint this bass?

I'm keeping the hardware color and pick guard.

For bonus points tell me which color strap would look best/least likely to clash with my bass.

Black Straps never clash with anything.

As far as Paint goes, are you really going to paint the bass? Not have it actually refinished? the paint will probably look kind of awkward, and will chip off relatively quickly, leaving you with a weird looking bass. I'm not particularly well versed in this, though.

If by refinish you mean sand him down, repaint and clear coat, yes I plan on doing that.

Well, since those are the only two choices, I voted for darker brown. Why? Because it looks closer to black. Like the paint that's already on there.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Slow down and don't make any rash decisions here you're likely to regret.

You're thinking about painting your black bass dark brown? Have you really thought about this. I mean.....all that color. So vibrant. So exciting.

What will the neighbors think?

Why don't you strip it and if it has a good wood grain give it a coat of tung oil?

Need to see her stripped first , might be a translucent option,is it going to be solid color no matter what?

Possibly while staining, the color you want will just appear while staining and then just even out the colors tone.
It may not end up being one of the colors you picked , but you'll stop when it's just what you want
Good luck .

Also if you're not sure, by all means practice on a piece of scrap wood.
