What Covers Do You Hate To Play?

Sign in to disble this ad
Now this isn't to say that these songs are bad from a listener's perspective, but if you play any covers, which songs do you loathe and detest from a bass players point of view?

My personal 3, which if I never had to play them again would be too soon, are;

Mustang Sally
Johnny B Goode
Sweet Home Alabama

Sweet home Alabama
A few Eagles songs like "New kid in town" (great music but kind of boring to play)

I actually love to play Mustang Sally, but it's more because of the vocals than the bassline. It's a lot of fun to sing it. It's one of the songs that always work.

I never understood the hatred towards "Sweet Home Alabama". Yes, the song is pretty cliche (OK, extremely cliche and done to death), but the bass line is actually kind of fun to play, IMHO.

Live here. Just the thought of hearing that song makes me cringe. I'd rather sit through 6 minutes of nails scratching a chalkboard.

Crazy by Patsy Cline. Hate it. Won't play it. I've actually quit bands over that "song".

Other than that, if I don't like a song, I can usually funk up a song to make it at least tolerable. For me, at least...

+1 Mustang Sally
Brown Eyed Girl

Hmmm...Freebird has always been the ongoing bar joke. I had to play it seriously only once in many years.
