| | | | What do you do for pre-gig energy? Just wondering what you fellow bassists eat or drink or whatever, for energy and to get psyched-up before performing? |

A good stretch is also a necessity

The thing that really gets me pumped up is what I listen to before the show. No matter what type of gig be it Metal/Classical/Jazz/Country/Rock I will always listen to the same set of music on the way to the gig. I put on Wu-Tang Clan's "Enter the 36 Chambers" driving to either my studio to pick up my gear or my band mates house to pick them up. On the way to the gig itself I play a mixed CD of Hardcore/Deathcore bands (Whitechapel, Carnifex, Stick to Your Guns...etc etc). When I'm about 5 minutes away I will put on Iron Maiden's "Run to Hills" and will not leave my car till it is finished.

But honestly I used to drink coffee but it make me crazy jittery. Once 5 hour energy hit the market I was on it. I love that stuff. |

If Im dead at gig which is 10% of the time then I'll have half of a sip of coffee. This works for me because I dont regularly drink coffee so when I do have it, it works amazing for that little bit I do drink. But even coffee has its limits because for instance if I have been studying for days/nights for midterms and finals and then we take a gig the night my exams are done, no amount of coffee pre-show can give me the oomph I properly need ...Im usually a zombie at those shows.

Now, longer naps, a kiss on a good day, finger excersizes, and six quick steps before hobbling to the stage.

My pre-gig music depends on my mood. Either DLR's Eat Em and Smile, or something by Black Label Society.
I don't drink. Usually I'm REALLY mellow right before we go on, like lethargic. Can't explain it, but when I hear the first bass drum hit, it's on.
