what do you do when work gets in the way?

I've recently started a new job which is sapping a lot of my bass playing energy. I like to feel energetic and inspired before I sit down to practice, and recently work has been so hectic that by the time I get to sit down with my bass, it's late at night, I have little energy or excitement left, and the result is that I don't end up practicing anywhere near the amount I should be to progress as I have been.

For those of you who work during the day but also like to practice and study daily, I'm sure you all get tired and exhausted, how do you deal with this? If you practice daily, do you have a ritual you go through to get you in the mood? Coffee is no good, you get a short burst of energy and then crash. Same with energy drinks, plus they're full of chemicals. People in the 70's had cocaine to keep them going, I'd prefer not go down that route either. Listening to music first helps sometimes, but I'm sure some of you have some tried and tested methods to get you into the right frame of mind. Help me out, people...

Get gigs at night. Gives you a reason to make yourself woodshed.

Depending on what kind of job you have and what kind of tired you are... exercising.
