I'm inevitably scrambling to find something after our set. I'm not comfortable leaving stuff in my gig bag off stage when playing either. Or my backup bass either. My gf isn't always around to load her up before I go on. I've taken to setting stuff in my rack but stuff ends up falling out or I forget I've put it there. Also have the do-gooders collect up my stuff for me without telling me and then I spend twenty minutes searching for something I just put down somewhere. I really do try to consolidate it but it never seems to work cleanly. Not like in the old days when we had hotel rooms. Maybe a shaving kit to throw everything into the back of the rack where I can keep close tabs on it before we have to clear off the stage for the next band. |

I never carry my keys in my pockets because it drives me nuts! I have a medium size case that my pedals, cables, etc. go in. I usually throw my keys and other bulky pocket items in it and stash it behind my amp.

I bring a rubber bottom ashtray and two coasters for my smokes and drinks (Beam & Diet and Water).

I have a gig box that I use to keep everything vital in one place - gear for the gig, plus wallet, car keys, etc. while I am playing. Once, we were playing a gig in San Antonio where I drove my own car and the band brought a trailer. At the end of the gig (about 2:30AM) we tore down and loaded the trailer, which took about an hour. Time to hit the road back to Austin.
Uh, where are my car keys?
In my gig box.
Where is my gig box?
In the trailer, of course, on the bottom layer all the way at the front.
An hour later, I was finally on the road and my bandmates were very irritated with me.

If its kinda bulky or bothersome while playing I'll put it on top of my amp or on the floor next to my pedalboard. My gun I keep holstered on my mic stand, just in case anyone tries to get ornery.

| | | | I haven't gigged in awhile, but when I did (especially during the punk years) I'd put everything in my hard case and then put a small amp on it. Once in the mid 70's I saw some guy going through our stuff while we were on stage.....he was only about 6 feet from us and just looked at me and smiled before I whacked him in the face with my Gibby EB3. |

I use a laptop bag as a gig bag.....lots of compartments to keep everything organized, and I use the front outside pocket for all my carry-ables (cell, keys, lighter, etc.), and I throw the bag behind my 8x10 while I play.
Once I am done playing the first thing I do after a gig is to reload my pockets before I pack up anything! This way I dont end up with the same problem ggunn had.
The other great thing about the laptop bag......if everything has it's place, it's easy to tell if something has gone AWOL.

All the other stuff I carry just for gigs stays in the bag I have to tote stuff like spare strings, tools, spare cables, fuses, gaff tape, etc.
