Question What do you sit on?

Sign in to disble this ad
What do you guys sit on to practice? I'm pretty tall, & have long arms, so when I sit in a "normal" chair my right hand position is terrible. Decreases agility, and my hand seems to get numb (carpal tunnel doesn't help). Not to mention, it's just not good to practice with improper technique.

Anyone else have the same issue? Ideas?

I have the same issues and usually end up standing 3/4 of the time while practicing.

I usually only sit when I'm transcribing a part.

I kind of figured standing was going to be the answer. Just puts me kind of far away from the PC monitor & mouse. But, I may just have to suck it up & get up on my feet!

get a stool, i'm tall too and if i sit, i like being up nice and high, try switching the bass over to your left leg and craddle it between them to elevate the neck a bit, that's what i like to do

I have a drummer's throne in the practice room but, when not in there, I'll whatever is available - straight back chair, living room couch doesn't matter a whole lot to me.

I never practice standing up. Even most band rehearsals are done sitting except those rehearsals dedicated to polishing the live performance.

I usually stand and play. Otherwise, I just sit in a regular chair.

I always stand when I practice.
I can not sit when I practice or gig with the band. I feel standing and playing is as much a part of practicing as playing.
If you want to sit & play get a drum kit or keyboard.

I read here Holding The Bass
that "You should use a guitar strap 100% of the time when you play your bass."
I'm not sure I have an opinion on that. Curious what others think.
Guess it doesn't say anything about sitting though. Maybe I read it wrong.

My brother has a little home studio and he was having a problem with this. His solution was to get a table high enough to get his equipment up to a comfortable working level while standing. He's got a tall stool for when he just wants to work at the table, but he can also get to it all while standing with an instrument strapped on.

Tall stool with padded top. It's very close to standing but provides support.

I stand to practice, sitting puts the bass too high for me to play comfortably & I always feel I'm having to support the bass when sitting rather than the strap supporting it.

I got a $30.00 stool from Wal-Mart which folds flat. It allows one leg to stretch out a bit. However, when it's time to sing, up I stand. And I have to shorten the strap when I sit... so most of the time, I stand.

I stand, mostly. On occasion, like when playing our more mellow tunes, I may take a seat on a nearby combo amp. Even then, though, Im on my feet before the first chorus. Damn backup vocals.
