What do you sit on when you play/practice?

Simple question.... What kind of chair do you sit in at home? My back is killing me after about an hour. I would love some suggestions!

Comfy leather recliner usually... I can't really beat that. I think if you're having back problems you might want to think about your posture, how tense you are, and how much lower back support you're getting.

I am currently sitting in a folding chair... hahaha.... I try to keep my back straight and relaxed... But after a while I still get pain. I saw a chair at GC the other day... The "musicians chair" ... But kinda wondered if it was a gimmick.

This is going to sound strange, but back when I was taking jazz lessons and practicing religiously, on a daily basis, I used to get posture/slouch pains after an hour or more. Then one day I sat on an exercise ball... comfy and it ended my long-term seating back pain!
I recommend it... and now that I think about it, I kind of want to go out and buy another one.

EDIT: Joebar beat me to it! So I'm not the only one!

I sit on a stool with a attached footrest...the footrest is adjustable height...like the kind you find in music shops. Doesn't take up too much studio space and actually pretty comfy.

Quite a few doctors and such are against the idea of keeping your back straight while sitting. Try scooting forward and laying back a bit, if that doesn't make you feel better try leaning over forward slightly. I'm not saying these will work best but who knows, you may find a perfect position.

I just stand. Allows me to move around a little, and I've never had back issues while playing. Also keeps my arms, fretting arm especially, pretty free.

I got a drummer stool for my birthday. It's comfy, but doesn't go as low as I would like.

Keep moving about. We're not designed to sit still for too long which is probably why the Yoga ball works for some.

+1

I play with my bass on my hip, which is too low for sitting. I have an 78" wingspan, these long arms need room to "Dangle!"

I like sitting on a drum throne personally, but I don't have room for one at my place at the moment. I'm sitting on the couch now. It's not my favorite, but it gets the job done.

The skulls of my vanquished enemies......

Or an office chair.

Or I stand like when I'm gigging.
