What effect on bass tone would a hardwood floor room have compared to a carpeted room?

Hardwood floor is highly reflective and will give the impression of less bass. slightly. depends. room size, proximity to cab, etc...

Large room or small room?

I have never played in a carpeted room (carpeted floors are very uncommon here) so I can't really tell the difference, but I'm sure I would like more to play in a carpeted room because of the dampened acoustics.

However, from an aesthetic point of view, I'd choose a wood floor over a carpeted one any day, except maybe in small bedrooms....

It would depend on whether you string through the floor or just the bridge.

If the small room was completely empty, there would be a remarkable difference I believe, but otherwise, probably not.

Maple floors are brighter than rosewood.

no one's asked if it has a poly finish or nitro?

to me, wood floors lend a 'livlier' sound to a room...we recently pulled up carpet and refinished hardwoods, and it confirmed what i've heard before...it's more noticeable with higher frequencies ime, like guitar and cymbals, the brighter sounds

I'm absolutely floored by this line of inquiry!

If the only variable in the room were the floor covering, a change in bass frequencies would be unlikely. OTOH, spaces with carpet, drapes, and upholstered furniture absorb higher frequences and sound less reverberant than an empty shell with only hard surfaces.

WoW-that room is bigger than my entire apartment.

With bass guitar-i don't notice much a difference. With double bass-the bass seems a bit louder and more full w/hardwood floors. Most carpeted rooms seem to be more dead to me.

Mostly jazz basses. To me it feels louder without carpeting. Maybe its my imagination

each has it's own different element. although not mentioned on the thread....ceramic floors will pretty much kill off any bass you have hahaha. in hardwood floor settings, the higher frequencies are better noticed and in carpet floors (depending on size) you have a more dampened bassier sound. in my own experiences....hard wood floors>carpeted floors>ceramic/cement
