What exactly do you DO while playing bass?

What exactly do you do while you play? Do you walk around, bob your head? Stand with your feet together while looking intently at your bass? Maybe you sit down?

What is it you that you do?

Let the music move you. Stop before you start breaking things.

Whatever's appropriate for the song, but more importantly "for the band, and venue". IMHO nothings worse than one person in a band who's a lunatic on stage and the others are zombies.

I try to get the crowd worked up if nobody else is doing so. Other than that, it's back up vocals or interacting with the other band members and crowd.

I pay a lot pf attention to the drummer 1st, then either the lead or the singer trying to keep everyone together. Other than that, it depends on the tune. My knees aren't what they used to be so on slow tunes I use a stool and really lock down the bottom end, getting the emphasis where it needs to be. I do get up and dance around quite a bit, but no acrobatics.

Hahah thats totally me sometimes. Most of our stuff I'm just weaving around, doing the occasional dip backwards or something (hard to explain the motion) but if we're playing faster songs, like "Same in the End" from Sublime, I tend to get a little crazy. I guess its the old punk rocker in me dying to get out in my groovy reggae rock band.

Move. Anything. Something.

The most boring thing I can imagine it everyone standing in the same spot playing.

Dance monkeys.

I tend to sing as well as play bass, so I'm stuck in one place. I do dance though, or in bars when I'm not playing I'll dance and clap my hands/wave a tambourine/do something.

I stand there with my feet firmly planted (for the most part) and my eyes squeezed tightly shut (for the most part) and I bob around and make the most amazing faces (so I'm told).

When the muse strikes me, I stalk around the stage like a caged jungle cat.

I'm a pacer. Hate those crowded bar stages. I've fallen off more than once.

Been there

I make rather odd faces, tongue hangs out. In the groove I move around a lot more. Depends on the song, style etc.

Try to get the crowd into it. All while checking out the dancing babes. (If you need instructions for the latter, I can't help you.)

Depending on how my back feels: Small stage-Either stand still and play or groove with the music.

Big outdoor stages-Stand still or lumber around, being fat.
