Help me out if anyone knows where i can get this sound? It most commonly appears on Dr. Dre's "the Chronic" and other death row records. Its that long beach gansta whistle. If anybody knows what im talking about, or a patch name on a common keyboard, or even a cheap keyboard that has this sound.
thanks |

BTW, you can get that sound on a Trinity keyboard as well.

My keyboardist uses it when we do snoop & dre covers, and even 50 cent covers... just instrumental of course. |

In fact, if you find the song "Colors" by Ice T, you can hear it.

I'd imagine a theremin or an old Moog with a pitch shifter thingy.
(theremin- think "Good Vibrations")

Should be quite possible to achieve on a modern keyboard, at least the more advanced ones. Make sure to tell it to be monophonic, though. That's important if you want that whistling / theremin glide. |

Edit: Just saw the Good Vibrations reference...I'm getting closer. | Go to this page: http://hallgeir.no/hmt/nebulus/
and go to the Nebulus pages, scroll down, below the photos there are some sound files. Listen to the "flute sound" (it's a .wav file, slow server connection, don't click it unless you really mean it) - in the middle of that sound file I think you will hear the sound you want. A bit of legato, glide and vibrato on a simple sinewave.
Isn't this what you are after? |
