for me it wacked me big time when i hit 40.....
More drinking with the boys on Friday nights
Got back into motor biking
Got into some crazy down hill mountain biking and got hurt a few times too..lol
Got serious into the bass and bands
Hit the gym big time, heavy weights
Had visions of me being in a nursing home and didnt have long before my life went by and i was dead
I had a conversation with a doc friend of mine who said it often happens to 40 plus year olds who are married with kids and settled down as you would say.
My theory is hormones lead our lives and as the testosterone levels in our bodies drop there becomes a trigger point to where our brains react and stuff happens, which might be a mild form of depression that we fight by doing lots of exciting stuff to try and cover it up

Some of the gear
The Car
Surely that's not a mid-life crisis is it? I look at it more like the company I started just before I turned 40 is doing well enough that I can finally afford some nice toys.

i really cant imagine myself ever doing "that." then again, thats a long way in the future. | I have ridden crotch rockets from age 18 to 30 , then bought my first Crusier a Harley Ultra Classic , Have owned several over the years, Last year an iron horse chopper , I have been riding 32 years now. Owned my 1st Vette in 85, and my second in 07. Last month picked up a Challenger SRT8
Dont see anything lame about it, Dont knock it till you try it .

I have a degree in Psychology and feel that it is a load of crap. It is nothing more than an excuse to justify behavior or getting out of an unhappy situation such as a marriage. |

I never felt I was "having a crisis."

i really cant imagine myself ever doing "that." then again, thats a long way in the future. | Get back with us when you reach 40, see if you still feel the same way. Toys are cool, no matter what your age. And inside every middle aged man is a 19 year old dying to get back out.
Got back into playing bass & guitar just before I turned 40, bought a Mustang convertible, waited until 50 to buy the (2nd) Harley, now I'm 60, and my midlife crisis is on the wane. (Still have a bunch of basses, both Harleys, the big-block Corvette I bought when I was in my mid-20's...and the most important: my wife, who's put up with all my boy/man hobbies & toys through the years. She's the only part of my world I would not live without...besides my kids).

I never felt I was "having a crisis." | I am well beyond the point of having enough disposable income but I also do not consider it a crisis. I consider it the result of a lot of hard work. To me a mid life crisis is something to do to make yourself feel better about getting older. It's kind of like being in denial ("I'm not old, see I own a sports car"). Or like a friend of mine who at age 55, decided it was a good time to start playing ice hockey again. The result, shoulder and knee surgery. As I said, many people use the term "mid life crisis" as a way to justify behavior. |

We were looking at Mustangs (She loves Mustangs) then it was her who said "It has to be a 2-seater so that when the kids say "Can we come for the ride" we just say No!
So we bought a Vette. And for the record, my 2002 convertible is the least expensive vehicle that I've bought since 1993 and is definitely the most fun to drive.
