What have you had to sacrifice for music?

Just curious. I'm sure some people have quit their jobs, had divorces, moved, lost hobbies etc. etc.

Only my soul, but it was pretty dark and dingy looking anyway.

I've sacrificed my Friday nights for four years. Pretty small stuff if you compare it to a soul, even if it was dark and dingy looking.

I was at the point, after my band broke up, to where my wife was keeping me from seriously getting another band together. I told her music lasts an eternity, but her boobs would probably be gone in a few years...

ok, I didnt really say that, but I did leave her to focus on my music. (and for a sleu of other reasons)

A lot of sleep, a few relationships, and any semblence of being "understood" by laypeople.

Hmmm.. what have I "sacrificed" for love of playing music?? Pretty much what the others have already offered: TIME.. and apparently lots of it. For example.. I'll start a "minor" tweaking project, or some component and wiring upgrade on whatever instrument I feel needs it... when I finally look up to see if it's time to sleep, it might be 2:00 a.m. already...sheesh!!!

-- I used to go backpacking a lot, no more.
-- I've cut way down on the amount of bicycling I do.
-- I hardly ever go out to hear music, worse is when I'd like to go hear someone but I have a gig
-- I've had rough patches in my family situation over the years because of gigging.
-- I take shorter vacations so I'll be home on weekends for gigs.

A little bit of my hearing

But I've gained more than I've sacrificed.

Every job I've ever had, pretty much. I've either quit them because they were stepping all over my music time, or I got sacked from them because I was too distracted by music to do them properly, or too tired from the previous night's gig to come in on time. I even walked out of a job once because a manager was about to chew me out, starting with the line, "look, I don't mind you having whatever hobbies in your spare time..." and I felt so insulted by his referring to music as a "hobby" that I had to leave before I decked him.
