I guess that low action and heavy technique makes it sound twangy, maybe something else?

Sounds like a jazz bass, both pickups up all the way, played hard. I don't think you need anything else to get this sound.

MarkBass Compressore and SansAmp BDDI are what he uses... Before I even read that, I heard the sound and thought "a good compressor and a VT Bass pedal" ... So I was close!
