What is the most 'complex' bass line you play

Sign in to disble this ad
For those gigging musicians, what is the most complex or difficult line you play regularly. Covers or Originals. If it's your own composition, a link would be cool.

For me, I would have to say Limelight by Rush...

I guess I've got it pretty easy:
The Ocean
Kashmir, just because it's 10 minutes long.
Intro to Sweet Child o Mine, cause it's still new.

Currently I'd say Peg, What Is Hip and Sir Duke.

One song I wrote has a 'rotating' bassline, as I call it, moving from 3/4 to 4/4, 3/4, 5/4, 3/4, 6/4, and back, depending on the section. You can hear it on our myspace, in my sig. It's called Ponies on Ice.

Ditto here - The Hip'ster is difficult to keep in tempo with the drums.

I'd add 'For the Love of Money' which is a bass riff driven tune.

Sometimes it's the slow ones that get ya ...

Getting the phrase and inflection right, I once did a sub gig with a badd azz piano player I had never played with before, and he called out the Ray Charles classic "Georgia On My Mind" lucky for me he had a great left hand. I faked it through the first night, by the second night of the gig I had it. Not only is that a slow soulful tune, but played correctly it has a lot of changes!

... A lot of the old R&B tunes can be a challenge to do correctly ... I mean it was Jamerson, Bob Babbit, "Duck" Dunn, Leroy Hodges and so on!

Very true, but none of our slow tunes are giving me trouble at this time.

Definitely agree.

That said, my most complex song at the moment is probably an original song my guitarist and I wrote a while back. It involves a lot of intricate play between the drums and guitar, and there`s a good bit of various techniques I have to use(two hand tapping, pinch harmonics, double thumb, etc..). It`s pretty intense, but it`s fun.

I do some tapping sections in a couple of chorus'. my bass solo in one song is pretty hard too, its got legato runs, tapping and sweeps.

My ex band (creative differences) wanted to play The Dance Of Eternity.
My whole arm cramps thinking about it.

Probably "Signed Sealed and Delivered" by Stevie Wonder. Not terribly technically difficult at all, but to give the line the right feel, now that's where the magic (and challenge) is.

The line starts at 3:57.

Sorry for the poor quality.

Drop C tuning, 6 string bass, two handed tapping.

Here's the tabs.
