Rap

Still not my favorite but playing with "Da Berry Brothers" gave me an appreciation for the stuff. We played all freestyle (meaning we made it up as we go).

I usually listen to classic rock, blues, some country and some newer rock. This year I started listening to some old jazz records by artists such as Count Basie, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, etc.

Sadly, there hasn't been anything in rock in more 20 years that has interested me enough to want to buy it.

The most notable discovery I've made would have to be ミドリ (Midori). It's a Japanese band that plays a sort of jazz/noise rock fusion, like Kenny G meets Hole. I never thought it would work, but I have to say it seems to be working pretty great.

I've been a fan of Nightwish since they replaced the original singer. After seeing them live a few months ago, my wife and I are now both way into them!

Like you I just recently discovered these guys, but to me it sounds like there's some bass on the albums? At least on some of the tracks from Invernal?
But as allways, I could be wrong... Anyhoo, great band!

It's just two guys so no formal bass player. Could be the guitar player is splitting his signal and running it through an octave pedal and a bass rig though. I've not seen them live to know one way or another, but I know it's just two guys.

A couple of my favorite songs from this year.

Yonder Mountain String Band – Shake me up
Railroad Earth – Warhead Boogie (cool bass line)

I also learned to play most of Eddie Vedder’s “Into the Wild” soundtrack on mandolin.

Been listening to a lot of "soul jazz" that I never really gave credence to before, including Jimmy McGriff, Brother Jack McDuff (my favorite stuff has Richard Davis on electric bass), Johnny Hammond, Freddie Hubbard's First Light, Lonnie Smith, etc.

But the album that hit me the hardest is McLemore Avenue, Booker T. & the MGs' tribute to the Beatles's Abbey Road!
