Phantom power is a (usually) 12 or 48V DC electrical current used by some microhpones and other devices that is carried on the same lines as the signal.

More detail here: http://www.sounddevices.com/tech/phantom.htm

And while I'm at it, moved to misc. Not quite about effects IMO.

If you don't want to answer a question, then don't.

No harm, no foul.

I for one like the discussion aspect of the forums. Otherwise I would have saved my money and just Googled all my questions.

If you don't want to answer a question, then don't.

Getting back on topic now:

Phantom power?

What I know was answered in an above post.

On the Power Triangle-

Real(or True) Power would be the base...measured in Watts(only Resistors in the circuit)
Phantom Power would be the vertical component...measured in VARs(some combination of Capacitors/Inductors in the circuit)

The Hypoteneuse would some combination of the above...measured in Volt-Amps.

Did I rememeber what I learned(a long while ago) in AC/DC Theory?

This answer would have been so much funnier from Mike Mulcahy. Then he could have written "Dammit Jim, I'm a Doctor, not an electrical engineer."

And it would have all been correct and true. I think that provides so many more irony points. Doesn't it?

I hate so badly to have to explain a joke that ALMOST worked.

*heavy, heavy sigh*

I too was thinking of DeForest Kelley (sp?), but I thought it would be funnier if the 'I'm a Doctor' part of the line came from an actual doctor. It was a potentially amusing moment, cut down in its prime like so many before it. Farewell, potentially amusing moment. We hardly knew ye.

Potentially Amusing Moment 2005-2005

( A moment of silence, please.)

Now, I remember-
Apparent & Imaginary Power are the same("Imaginary" cause you use Imaginary numbers to figure it out...weird).
So, that's my English degree kickin' in..."Phantom" = "Imaginary". DUH.

Yes, I am a dumb ass.
Carry on.
