What should i put on my Bass page?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All

Quick question. Ive been playing my bass now for about 12 months and would like to start getting out there.

Id like to set up a myspace page with some examples of what i can do,So as not to waste anyones time with auditions etc.

What tracks would you like to see on a bass players page?

Im thinking tricked up 12 Bar.
Slapping and Popping

Anything else?

Thanks

Vegie

You'll still have to audition. Regardless, get yourself an inexpensive interface to record into the computer and if the software doesn't come with something similar to it, get garage band so you can create some actual songs with you playing bass to them. This will go further than just playing bass to a 12-bar blues or a slapfest that may turn people off from calling you. Put a variety of stuff there too - one pop song, a jazz song, funk, etc... check out my own myspace for some examples if you'd like - www.myspace.com/bassjones - also, make sure you set up an artist site, not a personal site as they won't let you convert them now - or if they do it takes forever!

Yep, you'll likely still have to audition. Very few bands are going to simply take someone who has been playing for only 12 months because he/she has a web page that shows a few styles.

Most contacts are made through networking and because "someone who knows someone remembers you play bass fairly well." Don't turn down ANY opportunities to play (providing they're legal). Let people know you'll play for free (at least till you become established). Don't look at anything as a waste of time. Everything you do counts toward something. If you're putting up a web site, put your best stuff out there.

The more your face is out there and the more people see you playing for a variety of things, the more your reputation will grow and your network of musician contacts will grow (and that is a very good thing). Of course, "making it" has as much to do with character and how easy you are to work with, how reliable you are, how flexible you are, etc. as it does with how well you play.

Keep in mind, if you're serious about making it as a bass player, you need to promote the "entire package" not just your playing ability.
