My friend wants some beginner bongo's for Christmas, and I don't know anything about bongo's at all. What is a good brand or model to look for?

Thanks!

For good bongos, Latin Percussion and Gon Bop are good. I know less about entry level, but Latin Percussion has a low-end line that are pretty good.

LP, Pearl, and Meinl are the brands I'd suggest. Be sure to pick a set with heavy-duty hardware, not the cheap flimsy stamped metal. Also be sure the hardware has tightening nuts on the bottom, rather than drum-key screws on the top rim (those hurt your hands).

LP is the only brand I know. I love the sound of them when you hit 'em with a stick! Check the opening of the Jimmy Fallon show for that sound.

Put this in the right forum and stop apostrophizing plurals and I'll answer your question with more information than you can stand or use (note username).

You could try something by Tommy Chong...sorry, I didn't see the "o" on the end of the last word of the thread title. Never mind.

So, because his grammar isn't exactly correct, you're going to withhold your wisdom? That's a little nit-picky, isn't it?

I'd probably go with LP Matadors. They're pretty reasonably priced and they can sound great.
