What are some good classic rock covers?

Sign in to disble this ad
A buddy of mine and I have been thinking about doing just an acoustic duo to make a few bucks to put towards recording costs, and are trying to come up with some classic rock covers to entertain the crowd.

We've got bands like Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, and CCR, but after that, I'm kinda stumped. Any suggestions?

Stevie Ray Vaughan's Pride and Joy always goes over well. Just brainstorming here, but how about some Bob Seger?

Under The Milky Way would sound great in a sparse acoustic arrangement.

Songs that fit in your vocal ranges. Something easy like Immigrant Song by Zeppelin or Don't Stop Believing by Journey.

But seriously, no matter how cool a song is, it will suck if you butcher the vocals. Especially in an acoustic duo.

Back in my clubbing days, my favorite acoustic duo did a lot of Jethro Tull, odd as that may seem, especially from the Aqualung LP. It sounded great.

And if one of you can really sing, James Taylor is always a good choice.

How about Fleetwood Mac? Tons of popular songs. I was going to mention Jethro Tull but Scootron beat me to it. Depending on the venue (apparently, every place in Massachusetts), southern rock goes over good, Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and especially Marshall Tucker have a few that would sound good acoustic. And thinking a little more, the Eagles.

This is the answer. If you can sing it, it will work. If you go this route remember that you don't have to do the songs exactly as they were recorded..... you can even change the style or mood, if it suits you.

If you guys do good harmony maybe some Crosby, Stills, and Nash - with or without Young.

2. Bounty Hunter
3. Can’t Get Enough
4. Cinnamon Girl
5. Come Together
6. I’ll Fix Your Flat Tire Merle
7. Flirtin’ With Disaster
8. I Just Wanna Make Love To You
9. I’m Your Captain
10. Keep Yourself Alive
11. Movin’ On
12. Music Man
13. Pinball Wizard
14. Powderfinger
15. Radar Love
16. Ridin’ The Storm Out
17. Rockin’ In the Free World
18. Run, Run, Run
19. Run To You
20. Stairway to Heaven
21. Stealin’
22. Stone Cold Crazy
23. Stranglehold
24. Tie Your Mother Down
25. Train Kept a Rollin’
26. Under My Wheels
27. We Will Rock You
28. We’re An American Band
29. Whole Lotta Rosie
30. Sweet Emotion
31. Blue On Black
32. Morning Sky

Except I would love to be in the right band one day to be able to do all of thick as a brick.

LOL! I sing "Rockin' In The Free World" and "Surrender" in my band. Does that count?
