What songs "get" you?

Sign in to disble this ad
I mean you maybe feel that little tightness in the throat, maybe even a tear or two for nostalgia's sake or some other past emotion the song evokes.

Don't worry about losing your man card unless its "Sugar Sugar" or something by the Bay City Rollers.

Silver Lining by The Rockfords, What You Give by Tesla, Dissident from Pearl Jam, and Hold Me Down by Tommy Lee come to mind right away.

For me its "Cry Me a River" by Joe Cocker and Don Mclean's "American Pie" sometimes referred to as "The Day the Music Died" just because its a tag line in the song.

So many. 'just don't think I'll ever get over you' and 'waiting for my real life to begin' by Colin hay, 'Amy hit the atmosphere', 'perfect blue buildings', and 'color blind' by the counting crows, 'please do not let me go' by Ryan Adams, 'videotape' and 'Pyramid song' by radiohead, 'hurt' by johnny cash, and 'Goodbye pork pie hat' by Mingus, just to name a few.

Mostly songs that I HATED in high school that were always blaring from the lunch room juke box, but now get me choked up with nostalgia.

Pete Fountain's rendition of "Just a Closer Walk With Thee". It was one of my dad's favorites (he and Pete were friends for 40+ years), and I played it on a boom box at his graveside. That was 18 years ago and I still can't listen to it.

Love ya', Dad.

Lines in the Sand

For numerous reasons.

It also has what I consider to be one of the most beautiful guitar solos ever recorded (at approx 5:30).

The Sweetest Gift by Linda Ronstadt featuring Dolly Parton, Morningside by Neil Diamond, Hello, Goodbye By Michael W Smith

Poems, Prayers and Promises becomes more and more relevant to me as I grow older. John Denver sure could write a great song.

"In This Life"... Collin Raye - In This Life - YouTube

The first version I heard was by the brilliant Oud player John Belizikjian and his wife Helen, and it just melted my heart.
