Ok, I have been playing bass for over 20 years; mostly in all original song-writing bands. I am in a band now that is primarily original, but have several copy songs learned. They seem to know hundreds of copies and keep saying, "Ok, lets try this song". Fortunately, I have been able to keep up but am curious, what are the "staple" rock songs that all bass players should know?

And staples you should know really depends on the crowd you're playing to. A 30's and up crowd will be more classic rock-oriented while 20-year-olds will be mostly 90's and newer.

That's a pretty good start I think.

You get a collection of songs together that does that, you'll get hired at many places.
