What th' ... ? Those stupid yellow underscores.

What's the deal on those yellow underscores in some posts? Are they inserted by the poster, or automatically by someone else. I clicked on one, and all of a sudden, I'm getting pop-ups by the dozen. If this is something instituted by Paul, my Total Hyper-Elite Membership is hanging by a thread.

In certain posts, words like "car", "cancer", or "ring" have a yellow underscore, which is actually a link to a major spam site.

It sounds like you have got somekind of adware on your PC that has "plugged" into your browser and is messing with what you see.

If you got to www.download.com you can download software like AdBuster and Spy-Bot that can remove that sort of stuff from your PC. It won't be a TB thing, I bet if you go to google groups or www.talkoldmeanguy.com (or wherever else you hang out) the same stuff will come up.

Bah internet spammers are the lowest of the low. PM me if you are having more trouble and I can send you a link to some sites.

Spyware is my guess. You have something on your comp that's altering your Internet Explorer. Try using Mozilla Firefox as your browser or jsut clean the spyware up. But spyware is quick to recontaminate, especially Internet Explorer, which is super vulnerable to hacks and spyware.

Sounds like adware or some other type of malware to me. I bet you are running IE

Here is a general description of malware (they call it parasites) http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/. Sorry I can't help with your specific problem.

You guys are right. It's a little thing called 180SearchAssistant or some such BS. I deleted it, but I'm not optimistic.

I downloaded Spybot, ran it, and that took care of it. That and 256 other pieces of ... never mind. It hasn't slapped me yet.

I just thought I would add that cwshredder gets rid of the 1800searchassistant crap too.

I also use IE6, where can I check out this Mozilla Firefox and what makes it better than IE?

It is popup immune, mostly. It is what we call open source. So anyone can write an updated version of it. Which means if someone makes a crack or exploits it's code, someone has probably already fixed it. It's quite stable. And you can use tabulated browsing. Look it up on their site, and they explain a lot of it.

So, Munji - what fine porn were you perusing when you caught this affliction?
