EADG, 98% of the time. Ocasionally we'll drop to DADG.

Usually we musicians call that "F".

Oh wait, so maybe tuning isn't the word I'm looking for. What's E# then? That's what my tuner said and they told me to tune to that.

Ha, I think you've mixed up sharps and flats. Tuning is the word you use... my guess is you tune down a half step, which could be refered to as Eb... which is pretty common. It's rare that a band would tune up to F... but it's possible. E and B are the only notes that don't have #s. An E# is an F, and a B# is a C (in classical theory beyond my comprehension, this isn't true, but music constantly contridicts itself... I hate music) My guess is you do this:

Gb
Db
Ab
Eb

Every string loosened a half a step. In my band King Bowman, we tune down a whole step. In the band I toured with, we tuned down two whole steps, occasionally lowered the lowest string to A# (an additional half step). Twas rather brutal.

I had to set my bass up because I hadn't played in standard in such a long time, and I just had a job with my old cover band.

Yep, that's it! When the lead guitarist was writing tabs for me on the computer, he used those.

EADG

You don't need fancy/weird tunings to play experimental music

Actually, my altered tuning is everything down a step, except for the G. So the "C" string and G string form a I-V chord. Cool for slapping, and when I feel like ripping off Mark Sandman, perfect for playing slide bass.

I mostly play in DADG and EADG. I've tuned my fretless BADG for kicks. I also recently tuned it up a step to F#BEA. Pretty nice actually, really tight but the harmonics were great. I even got some to ring out at the second fret, which is something I've never been able to do in any other tuning.

BEADGC on the six, sometimes B(or A)DADGC when my guitarist is in drop D.

In one band, I'm playing my fretless tuned C#F#BE or BEAD... not really sure which I prefer. I want to try tuning it up an octave from that, though, since we're just acoustic guitar, bass, and vocals.
