What type of banjo?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I want to get a banjo to noodle around on. What type do you suggest coming from a bass players perspective and why?

5-string? Tenor? Plectrum?

I guess I want to play bluegrass styles.

Cheers.

If you want to play bluegrass you're going to HAVE to get a 5 string. The cheaper they are the higher the action, so buy the best one you can afford.

keep in mind that you'll need to learn frailing, an entirely different pluck-strum-pluck playing style. with a 5 string, anyway

Cheers guys. Actually found a helpful store/sales person that was passionate about the banjo and she filled me in.

So nice not having to deal with the ingrates at the Rockshop (GC for NZ).

Ye-ah! Banjo time!
