What type of harmonizing pedal is he using?

This guy is singing, playing guitar, and is using a harmonizer pedal for the vocals, but listen at 3:24 he is singing the same note but the harmony changes notes...

I think you've got it backwards - he's singing the lower note, and his singing changes. The harmony produced by the effect doesn't change.

I couldn't tell you exactly which unit he's using, but TC Helicon's VoiceLive would surely do it. There's a handful of other units out there with that intelligent harmony tracking that can do it. Pretty much any of 'em. You've got to know your scales pretty well, though, as usually it's not as simple as putting "A minor."

There's a Digitech box that harmonizes via the guitar chord being played. Smart idea. Works really well.

But if he's changing the note he's singing, the harmonizer note would change right? Unless it's going off the guitar I guess..

What kind of guitar effect is that anyway that he's playing the song with, a chorus?

Not necessarily. It depends on the scale that he's entered into the machine.

Here's an example: There's a setting on the VoiceLive where you can force the harmony into a major penatonic scale. On that setting, the only available harmony notes are C, E, G, B, C. Let's suppose he's defined as the harmony to be a 3rd above. I.e., if he sings C, the machine will put out an E above the C. Now, if he sings the E, the machine will put out a G harmony. If he sings F, the machine will still put out a G since it's the closest on the scale to the forced note.

There's other notes and ways to change your vocal line while being in key and not having the harmony change. I'm not versed enough to know exactly how, though.

Thanks , Ubersheist.

Anyone know what type of guitar effect that is on the video?

with that pedal you can use an expression pedal to control the intervals of the harmonies as well, like a whammy pedal--since it doesn't show his feet, i would venture a guess he has a pedal that is shifting the harmony pitch
