What is union pay?

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted this here because I didn't know where else to post it.

I just got an email from a guy looking for a session bassist, and he wanted to know if I was available, and what my rates would be.

I've never done this before, and while I want to have a reasonable price, I don't want to rip myself off. So what's union pay, on average? Hourly? By session? Whatever?

Thanks for the help!

AFM recording agreements are paid by the intended use of the recording. One is then paid again if the recording is used for another purpose down the road. There are also different levels for uses as well. There is the Sound Recording Labor Agreement that the majors are signed on to, there are Limited Pressings that allow only 10,000 copies. There are different levels for soundtrack recordings for film. There are TV agreements covering the networks and cable and agreements for documentaries, commercials, etc.

I know this doesn't answer your question but hope you see that it just isn't a simple answer.
