What were the last RECORDS you bought

As in vinyl. This should be interesting for those who haven't bought vinyl in a long time. For me, luckily, it's a fairly recent transaction. There is a local guy who buys and sells vinyl, it's rare I run into, but I did a couple days and got:

West, Bruce, Laing - Why Doncha ($7)
King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black ($5)
King Crimson - Red ($7)

all in near mint condition! I didn't like Starless and Bible Black that much until I sat and listened to it on vinyl. I still think that's why I like vinyl. It's more of an event, almost like something to do. You have to sit and focus on the music, you put it on for a reason, it's not background noise. Furthermore, it made me realize how strange yet tight the rhythm section of Bruford and Wetton really is, such insane grooves. Red on vinyl is of course, mind blowing, it makes the music feel even more real, like... wow, these guys were really ahead of their times... and nobody has caught up yet. Still possibly my favorite album... possibly.

West, Bruce and Laing is the band Mountain with Jack Bruce on bass and more often than not vocals. At times, super bar rocky type stuff, but there are some great tracks on here. Jack Bruce's bass tone is especially bad ass on these jams.

Fairly recently, my GRANDMA hooked me up with a bunch of super cool records. A lot of early psych stuff, no doubt belonging to an aunt or uncle of mine. My favorites out of the pile, and there was some really decent stuff by my standards:

Johnny Rivers - Realization. A super poppy psychedelic Tom Jones is what it makes me think of, ha. Yup it's Mr. Secret Agent man himself, john rivers. I don't know, I really love this album. It's Las Vegas on acid.

and

When they Brought down the house, which is an amazing collection of live music from so many amazing earlish jazz artists, every track is amazing, I don't know why modern bands don't sound as good as these bands did.

Thanks Grandma for the groovy tunes, man.

I'm just fairly excited/nerdy about all the awesome music I've acquired recently.

I've started to buy the vinyl versions of the records that have made a significant impact on me as a player. Primarily so that i can hear how the music sounded when people first heard it. To play them on, my Mom gave me her old brief case style LP player.

So the last ones that i bought?

Cannon Ball Adderley-Somethin Else

Marvin Gaye-What's Goin On

Jaco Pastorius-self titled.

Not bad as all

For my Jaco influence, I did obtain a copy of Heavy Weather on vinyl. I might have to bust that out tonight!

Runs over to old album collection.
Old albums smell cool too. Weird.

I think the very last album I bought was Jaco Pastorius, Invitation. Probably early 90's. Actually it may have been later than that. IIRC, I got it from a record/CD club. They were selling CD's at the time, but this was only available in vinyl. Also, I believe it went out of print shortly after that and it didn't get remastered to CD right away.

Some of my last notable vinyl purchases, in my metal years was: Ozzy, Blizzard of Oz and Black Sabbath, Live Evil. Early 80's.

I also still have a lot of my very first albums, the very first being Led Zeppelin's first debut album.

I also have Houses of the Holy and IV. At one time while still living at home I had all the Zeppelin albums on vinyl.

Other classics:
Deep Purple, Machine Head.
The Who, Quadrophenia.
J. Geils Band, Live. Blow your Face Out.
Neil Young/Crazy Horse, Live Rust.
Jackson Brown, For Every Man.
Joe Walsh, The Smoker you Drink, The Player you Get.
Grand Funk, Hits.
Eagles, The Long Run
The Doobie Brothers, the Captain & Me.
Robin Trower, Live.
Steppenwolf, 16 greatest hits.

Other notables like Bob Seger, The Cars, The Police, Blues Brothers.

I grabbed a few from my mother too. They were just sitting in the basement.

Best of Booker T's and the MG's
Ray Charles, ingredients in a recipe for soul.
Ray Charles, The Genius Hits the Road.
War, Greatest Hits
Phoebe Snow, It Looks Like Snow.

Jazz stuff
Ramsey Lweis, Golden Hits.
Count Basie, Basie E=MC2=Count Basie Orchestra + Neal Hefti Arrangements.
Count Basie plays, Joe Williams sings Standards.
Bille Holiday, Lady sings the Blues. (price tag is still on it. "Our Discounted price" $2.49)
Al Hirt, with Henri Rene and his Orchestra.

A couple of other "Best of" swing bands, with the likes of Basie, Duke Elllington, Skitch Henderson, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Nat King Cole, etc....

Also rescued one other.
It's a Piano Concerto collection.
Original RCA Victor records in 78 speed. (the thick fragile vinyl)
It is a book style with four albums of popular classical music. Probably worth something, but in poor condition.

Well, Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Now my hands are all dusty and smell like old albums.

I think the last album I got new was Triplefastaction's 3x10" album of "Broadcaster." Must've been 1996.

As far as getting albums when they were new that I still have... probably either The Firm or Bryan Adams' "Reckless."

The one Crimson record I still need/want is "Red." I've found two copies of the first LP, and I've nabbed LTiA, ToaPP, and SaBB, but "Red" has alluded me.

My latest:
Rush - "Snakes and Arrows"
NoMeansNo - "Small Parts Isolated and Destroyed"
Zeni Geva - "Freedom Bondage"

I don't remember if it was a recording of the original broadcast of War of the Worlds, AC/DC Back in Black, or Tommy Soundtrack.

I managed to get The Who's Quadrophenia in perfect shape, with the big book and everything for 7 dollars.

Also bought Warren Zevon's entire discography on vinyl the last time I was in Austin.

Graham Central Station- My Radio Sure Sounds Good to Me.

Also have all of Cream's releases on vinyl.

I scored some really cool classical records from my old high school too. They were just collecting dust and they offered to let me have them. Part of them is an amazing 10 record set of early early jazz. Like, 1949 I think. It has different types of jazz on each record, the first one chronicles the beginnings of jazz and has a bunch of old African-American folk song.

I found a copy of Ted Nugent's "Cat Scratch Fever" in great condition late last year. It was a really happy experience to buy an LP again after so many years.

Got a single from Spoon on vinyl at a concert I went to a couple months ago. Before that, probably "Future Shock" by Herbie Hancock. Mostly I get 50's era jazz when buying vinyl...too much to mention.

The very last album I bought was Iron Maiden's Live After Death. After that I started buying cassettes.

Last LP I bought was Captain Beyond. I paid $20 for it. No idea what year it was, at least 10 years ago, probably much longer.
Captain Beyond included bassist Lee Dorman, from Iron Butterfly. He's an alumnus of my high school.

It's been a long time since I've gotten anything on vinyl.

I think the last vinyl albums I bought were:

The Exploited--Punks Not Dead
Gaye Bykers On Acid--(not sure of the title)
Dag Nasty--Field Day
Sex Pistols--The Great Rock N Roll Swindle (the 2 album import version).

Late 90s Beatles re-issues. They sound better than the CDs which badly need remastering. I have Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper from that batch.

Some Jazz LP remasters - Sonny Rollins Saxophone Collosus, John Coltrane Blue Train - a couple others maybe.

Busta Rhymes - Genesis - worst sounding vinyl ever.

My local Tower closed so I can't flip through new vinyl any more.

Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy. It's also the only vinyl record I've purchased. My parents had a few lieing around and I wanted to collect them: found Houses at a Goodwill in Augusta, ME and paid pennies for it.

I sold all my LP's (about 70 of them) to a freind of mine about 15 years ago but just this past winter he needed the room and I got them all back PLUS about 200 more albums.

A few of the highlights:

The Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz
The first 6 Black Sabbath albums
Every Pink Floyd album up till The Wall
The Dark Side of the Moon on Psychedelic colored vinyl
The first 3 Metallica albums and miscellaneous imports
Weird, spacy stuff like 6 Vangelis albums and 5 Isao Tomita albums
and most of the rest is classic rock from the 60;s and 70's.

The last record I bought from a store was The soundtrack to the movie "The Empire Strikes Back" (John Williams with the LSO)

I just mastered an EP (1000 CDs) of 6 songs for a band who are friends of mine and they're now putting out a limited run of 200 copies on vinyl. I Can't wait to hear it.

Edit: I also have about 300 45's of classical/jazz from the 40's and 50's that I got from my grandfather when he died.

Did you master to reel-to-reel for the analog completeness?
