Today I was at a studio and some guy was playing my bass when I was gone, by saying that it was his...I wanted to beat the s**t out of him but he ran when he found out he I was coming back...he bent a tuner on the fretless and I'm gonna make him pay. What would you do/have done in a similar situation

He ran before you got there? Sounds like a smart move on his part. Don't know what you can do except demand he pays you for the damage to your fretless. I'm sorry that happened to you. Rudeness is probably my number one pet peeve these days. Hope you can at least get him to pay for the tuner. I hate to say it but usually someone that rude will never let himself be held accountable.

I watched a drunk kid sneak onstage once when we were tearing down after a show, sit down at the drummers kit( he was side stage grabbing a case), and proceed to start hammering away at his vintage snare like a drunk idiot to impress his buddies! I've never seen that drummer move so quickly before or since, and swatted that kid so hard he literally flew out of the drum stool and smoked into a side wash monitor (Drummer is 6'3, 230 lbs)! Completely airborne! It was incredible to witness.

To answer your question, I felt this was a reasonable response. I would have done the same if someone was messing with my hard earned equipment. No question.

My gear is never wear someone can touch it, for the most part. At shows, my other band members have my back. Practice is at my house. If we did anything at a studio, I would only have gear there when I was there.

No one plays my instruments.

I would not have left my gear in such a situation. But had it happened as you described, I'd call it "lesson learned".
Done is done - can't lose sleep over it.

That level of inconsideration is just completely foreign to me...I don't get jerks that do crap like that. Golden rule...treat others like you would want to be.

My question is: if you were at a studio w/ other people there, and you left, why wasn't your gear locked up? From the sound of your post, you left your bass out for anybody to mess w/, and somebody did. Seems this is ultimately your fault. So unless the person broke into a locked case, I agree w/ Foamy: call it 'lesson learned.'

+1
Put your bass in your case and close it during breaks. Chances are high you won't even need to lock it. Out of sight, out of mind n all that.

If that happened to me, I'd break his fingers so he couldn't play it again. but maybe that's just me, but, I don't let anyone touch my basses.

Could he have done more to prevent it? Yeah of course. He could take it out to his locked car every time he goes to the bathroom, too. Does that make it his fault?

Uuuh no.

LOCKED car. Not your fault. UNlocked car. Yes, your fault. Just ask your insurance company when your car is stolen. Especially if you left the door open and the keys in the ignition.

Where do you want to wear my ware?

They're going to wear my ware there, or where they're going to dare wear their ware.

Later:

The right to bare arms.

Well even if it is my fault are you saying that he shouldn't pay for dammages too? The key is bent so it won't turn.

Well, it sounds like you have a Fanboy, and that's a whole other problem to deal with. At this point, regardless of how angry you are, the best thing you can do is to calmly talk to this person, tell him you expect him to pay for the damages, and that in no uncertain terms is he to touch your gear ever again. If you think this can be resolved, then I would suggest talking to the band about cutting ties w/ said Fanboy. I know from experience how problematic wannabe musicians who 'hang around' can become. If you don't think he'll pay up, talk to the band right away about it. But above all else, stay calm; because violence will only get YOU in trouble.

Edit:Oh, in the time I wrote this you changed your post. Ok...

Violence getting you in trouble is a good outcome. There are a lot more consequences to consider than getting in trouble after the fact. Like not getting to

I'm a firm believer that violence solves nothing, but I don't think that particular view point would hold water in this thread...
